After a 38-year career at the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), I joined Citizen Engineers as a Senior Transportation Operations Engineer. My career focus has been on transportation systems management and operations (TSMO), intelligent transportation systems (ITS), strategic planning for program delivery, asset management, and leadership. I enjoy bringing together technical expertise, practical problem-solving, and strong teams to deliver solutions that improve safety, mobility, and reliability for the traveling public. I’m especially passionate about technology and its application to manage and operate the transportation system.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to transportation research and policy at the national and international levels. This includes the AASHTO Committee on Transportation System Operations, PIARC (the World Road Association) Road Network Operations & ITS Technical Committee, the Technical Advisory Committee for the National Operations Center of Excellence, and numerous National Cooperative Highway Research Program project panels.
I enjoy mentoring others and helping to advance industry best practices. I’m enthusiastic about continuing to learn, developing leaders, and finding ways to connect people with ideas that make organizations and our transportation system better. I’ve been honored to receive ODOT’s Lifetime Career Achievement Award and the ODOT Mary Olson Leadership Award.
Away from work, I enjoy traveling and spending time with my wife and family, which includes four grandchildren. I admittedly have too many hobbies and enjoy running, golf, mountain biking, road cycling, hiking, skiing, snow shoeing, reading, and writing. And when I’m not participating in a sport, I’m an avid sports fan enjoying cheering on my favorite teams.
